Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce star as doctors in London treating cases of hysteria, a condition said to be characterized at the time by a woman’s irritability, anger or unexplained tears. Hugh Dancy’s character and his best friend, portrayed by Rupert Everett, experiment with a new electrical device for treatment for the ailment. Maggie Gyllenhaal portrays the gutsy daughter of Jonathan Pryce’s character. Penned by Stephen Dyer and Jonah Lisa Dyer, the film is directed by Tanya Wexler. It is among new additions to the Galas and Special Presentations line-up for 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
