Originally titled The Wettest County in The World, the film’s title was briefly changed to The Promised Land, before eventually reverting back to Wettest County. It is directed by John Hillcoat (The Road), and starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman. The Nick Cave screenplay is based on the novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant. The film has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
Inspired by true-life tales of Bondurant’s family in his novel, the story revolves around loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave. They find their bootlegging business under threat in Prohibition-era Franklin County, Virginia.
