LIFE OF PI is an upcoming 3D adventure film based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Yann Martel. The film is directed by Ang Lee (李安) based on an adapted screenplay by David Magee (Finding Neverland).
Suraj Sharma will be making his acting debut as the eponymous Pi, supported by Tabu (The Namesake), Irrfan Khan (The Amazing Spider-Man), Adil Hussain (Agent Vinod), and Gérard Depardieu (Mesrine). Tobey Maguire will have a small role as a writer who interviews an adult Pi played by Irrfan Khan.
Lee, who worked with Maguire on “The Ice Storm” and “Ride With the Devil,” said: “I am delighted that Tobey has joined the film. He is one of my favourite actors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I am so excited that we get to work together for a third time.”
The film tells the story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeeper’s son who finds himself in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sets them adrift in the Pacific Ocean.
