RUST AND BONE (French: De rouille et d'os) is a French-Belgian film directed by Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, The Beat That My Heart Skipped), starring Oscar winner Marion Cotillard (La vie en rose) and Matthias Schoenaerts (Bullhead). Based on Craig Davidson’s short story collection with the same name, the film competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and received positive early reviews.
It is a tender romantic drama about two people from very different worlds seeking redemption in each other. Cotillard stars as Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who late one night meets Alain (Schoenaerts) in a fracas at the nightclub where he works as a bouncer. Put in charge of his young son, Alain has come from Belgium to Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alain’s bond with Stephanie grows deeper after Stephanie suffers a horrible accident, bringing the two together once more.
