THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is a drama-comedy film which premiered and received mixed responses at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, directed and co-written by Italian filmmaker, Paolo Sorrentino (Il Divo). Starring Sean Penn and Frances McDormand, the film deals with a middle-aged wealthy rock star who becomes bored in his retirement and takes on the quest of finding his father’s tormentor, an ex-Nazi war criminal who is a refugee in the US.
Cheyenne (Penn) is a former rock star. At 50, he still dresses “goth” and lives in Dublin off his royalties. The death of his father, with whom he wasn’t on speaking terms, brings him back to New York. He discovers his father had an obsession: to seek revenge for a humiliation he had suffered. Cheyenne decides to pick up where his father left off, and starts a journey, at his own pace, across America.
