First TV Spot & HD Teaser Trailer for Hayao Miyazaki’s KAZE TACHINU (The Wind Rises)


KAZE TACHINU (風立ちぬ) is an upcoming Japanese anime film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿). It is the first film that Miyazaki has directed in five years; his last work was the 2008 film Ponyo / Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (崖の上のポニョ).

The film is based on the manga of the same name by Miyazaki, which is in turn based on a short story by Tatsuo Hori (堀 辰雄), a writer, poet and translator from mid-20th century (Showa period, 1936-1937) Japan. It is a fictionalised biography of Jirō Horikoshi (堀越 二郎), designer of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft which served in World War II. The protagonist Jirō Horikoshi is voiced by Neon Genesis Evangelion director, Hideaki Anno (庵野 秀明).

The 15-second TV ad features the film’s theme song Hikōki-gumo (ひこうき雲), the 1973 classic song from singer-songwriter Yumi Matsutoya (松任谷 由実). She originally composed the song when when was 16 years old.
