DIANA, which originally under its working title of Caught in Flight, is an upcoming biopic directed by Oscar-nominated German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall), and starring Oscar nominee Naomi Watts (The Impossible, 21 Grams) as Princess Diana.
Penned by playwright/screenwriter Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine), the film follows the Princess of Wales post-divorce, when she got involved in a campaign against landmines as well as a romantic relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan (played by Naveen Andrews), a Pakistani heart surgeon. Lost’s Naveen Andrews stars opposite Watts, playing the good doctor, while Canadian character actor Cas Anvar played Diana’s better known lover, Dodi Fayed, who died alongside her in that tragic car crash on August 31st, 1997.
When Princess Diana flew to Pakistan in May 1997, she went to meet the family of Dr. Hasnat Khan, the man she wanted to marry. One of the most famous and beautiful women in the world, she hoped to persuade Dr. Khan’s mother that she would make a suitable wife for her son. Had she succeeded, the events of that summer might have been very different... A love story about family, friendship and the calamity of fame.
