THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY is an adventure drama film directed by Oscar nominee Lasse Hallström (My Life as a Dog, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) and written by Steven Knight (Closed Circuit, Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, Locke), based on the bestselling novel by Richard C. Morais. Co-produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, the film stars Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal (TV’s 90210), Juhi Chawla and Om Puri.
The story centers on Hassan (Dayal), whose father settles his family in a small village in the south of France with plans to open an authentic Indian restaurant. But just across the road is an elegant, Michelin-starred establishment run by Madame Mallory (Mirren), who does not take kindly to competition. Eventually, Mallory recognizes Hassan’s culinary talents, and the young man has to choose between his passions and his sense of familial duty.
