WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE (Romaji: Omoide no Marnie / Japanese: 思い出のマーニー / Chinese: 回忆中的玛妮) is an upcoming Japanese anime film written and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (米林宏昌), produced by Studio Ghibli, and based on the novel When Marnie Was There by British author Joan G. Robinson.
Anna (voiced by Sara Takatsuki / 高月彩良), who is a shy girl, is sent to stay with an old couple in a village along the coast. She doesn’t open up to anyone and stays to herself. Anna then meets a strange girl named Mānī (voiced by Kasumi Arimura / 有村架纯). They become friends, but none of the village residents know about Mani’s existence.
The 10 seconds footage was attached with a commercial collaboration between Eyeful Home and Studio Ghibli which also features the theme song Fine on the Outside by Priscilla Ahn.
