THE WALK is an upcoming biographical film directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Flight) and written by Christopher Browne and Zemeckis. It is based on the story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit’s walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on August 7, 1974. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Steve Valentine, and Charlotte Le Bon.
THE WALK is the true story of a young dreamer, Philippe Petit (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and a band of unlikely recruits who together achieve the impossible: an illegal wire walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. With little more than nerve and blind ambition, Petit and his ragtag crew overcome daunting physical obstacles, betrayals, countless close calls and overwhelming odds to beat the system and execute their mad plan.
Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan.
Set to open the 2015 New York Film Festival, the film is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.
