First Official French Trailer for Jacques Audiard’s Palme d’Or Winner DHEEPAN

DHEEPAN is a French drama film directed by Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust And Bone) which won the Palme d’Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film was partly inspired by Montesquieu’s Persian Letters. Featuring novelist, and former Tamil Tiger child soldier, Antonythasan Jesuthasan in the lead role, the film tells the story of three Tamil refugees who flee the civil war-ravaged Sri Lanka and come to France, in the hope of reconstructing their lives.

o escape the civil war in Sri Lanka, a former soldier, a young woman and a little girl pose as a family. They end up settling in a housing project outside Paris. They barely know one another, but try to build a life together.

Starring Kalieaswari Srinivasan, Claudine Vinasithamby), Vincent Rottiers, and Antonythasan Jesuthasan, the story follows a Tamil freedom fighter who comes to Europe, forms a makeshift family, and claims asylum. However, further violence in the Parisian slums forces him to make a stand.
